I seem to have found myself on a forked road, one path leading to New Zealand, and the other leading to Europe. Awhile back I decided that by September 2008 I would be moving to New Zealand to live there for a year. But I have also wanted to backpack Europe since I was at least 14. Now the solution to this most of you will be saying is to do both. I fully intend to do both, I just can't decide in which order I should do them.
If I move to New Zealand I will be stuck with another year of a minimum wage job like every other year of my working life just in a different country. I also have a feeling that if I move to New Zealand I'm going to avoid post secondary. The one problem with this is I don't even know what I want to do for post secondary. I have issues with spending thousands of dollars on something I'm not even sure about.
If I backpack Europe I will be spending a large amount of money in a very short amount of time. I would also have to give up a large amount of my stuff as I have no desire to pay rent while I'm in Europe for three months. Though if I do Europe it may just scratch my travel bug just enough to let me get through college.
So it seems right now the best idea is to backpack Europe when I'm done school next year and then come home to do college. After finishing college I can move to New Zealand with a job that will actually pay somewhat decently (hopefully) and thus do more traveling in that country and in Australia.
I'm sure this will probably end up changing, but in the end I know I need to do both. I need adventure and excitement, two things Ottawa doesn't provide.
